I have two words for you. Mongolian Beef. I know, I know, I shouldn't have done that! Before you run off to get some delivered, I want you to try this Mongolian PORK! Guys, its so so good! Now fair warning, this dish isn't one that allows you to do much multitasking as it cooks, you can do a little, but you need to keep an eye on the pork. I PROMISE it is well worth every second!
Since "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure (-Benjamin Franklin)", lets make sure you have what you need in your cupboards, fridge and freezer and see what needs to be added to your grocery list! If you find yourself in a pinch and forgot to grab something at the store, read on to see a list of substitutions!
This pork will literally just melt in your mouth. It soaks up all the flavor and holds it! Pork is such a beautiful protein. It can EASILY be overcooked. So this dish does require more focus than most of my other recipes and doesn't allow as much multitasking. HOWEVER, it is still a super easy dish that is sure to be a family favorite! You can keep it a simple savory flavor or you can amp up the spice and add in some peppers.
TIME MANAGEMENT TIPS:
- If you are using a cast iron pan or a stainless steel pan, start pre heating it as the very first step. Have it be the first thing you grab and then pre-heat. Remember to pre heat it slowly. Starting at low, med-low, med. Don't raise heat above medium!
- Get out and pre measure/chop/prepare all the ingredients. This will be so helpful when the pork is done and you're ready for the sauce.
- Start the rice before you start the pork. Once its done it can be left in the instant pot/rice cooker/pan etc while you're finishing everything else.
Now, here is a list of steps you can not skip. Don't worry, they're easy!
- Cutting the pork in even sized chunks. This will make every bit perfect!
- Coating in cornstarch. It really helps with the sear for each piece.
- PRE-HEAT YOUR SKILLET. Don't add your meat to a cool skillet and then heat it up. This will give you chewy meat. AVOID! There is a reason this is written a second time!
- Sear each piece of meat. Don't over cook during the searing process. Sear and remove from the heat.
- Be patient. This dish is absolutely incredible, don't rush it and ENJOY..EVERY..BITE!
