Come spend some Thyme at my Table!

Oh! Hi!

I'm Kenzie! This is the first blog post for what I am hoping will be a legacy for my family to look back on. I want them to be inspired to acknowledge a dream and make it happen. I have loved cooking and creating for as long as I can remember. Its always been a beautiful process to me, combining colors, flavors and textures! Discovering new flavor combinations that satisfy the taste buds and assure the mind of wholesome nutrients is thrilling.

Kenzie Thyme at my Table

A little about me... I grew up in Utah just south of Salt Lake City. I have Pseudo Tumor Cerebri/Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension. I'm no stranger to hospital stays and being poked, prodded and scanned. I have had 9 neuro surgeries in the last 18 years. Currently I am on the longest streak I have had without a hospital stay for my shunt (life saving tube in my brain, crazy I know). I love binging TV series and having movie marathons. some of my binge worthy favorites are Grimm, The Office, The 100, Criminal Minds, SWAT, When Calls The Heart, RuPauls Drag Race, Sister Wives, and Little House on the Prairie. For movie marathons I like watching the Harry Potter series, Hunger Games, The Santa Clauses,  I enjoy creating things like pencil sketches, water coloring, oil painting, pastels and charcoal art. I'm thirty something with a deep connection to Jesus, my husband, daughter and family. I am a cosmetologist, self proclaimed chef, conductor of the hot mess express (toot, toot, all aboard!), tone deaf wanna be Grammy winner and master organizer (when I feel like it haha).

Another thing about me is that I love Jesus. I am a devout Christian and a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (Mormon/LDS). God and Jesus light my soul on fire and praise them openly. I absolutely love Contemporary Christian music and always have KLOVE Radio going or a YouTube playlist filled with my favorite songs. I can't help but sing along and praise God and Jesus with everything I have. This is one of my all time favorite pictures of Jesus!

Over the last year, I have, with the help of therapy, identified eating disorders I have and have started down the road to recovery. Along this road, I have learned so much about myself and have let myself to really dive into things that allow me to create. I love drawing, painting and exercising the creative part of my brain. Stepping into my power has helped me rekindle my love of cooking and has helped me acknowledge and love the skills and talents I had buried deep, deep down. Deciding to start this blog was (and still is occasionally) scary and felt (feels) very vulnerable. I am so glad I have had the courage to do it and to gain confidence in my abilities as I share my creations!

I have loved diving into the components of food and what makes each type of food great and unique. I've been taking my new found appreciation and creating meals that bring my little family together to bond, talk, laugh and just spend time together. Time is what I know I will miss the most when my family is grown. Time freezes while we are gathered at the table. I can look around and soak in the smiles, laughs and learning. Its pretty amazing how a trial or hardship can create something so absolutely timeless.

I try to always keep my kitchen a safe space to gather and a place of learning. In my kitchen I have had the most amazing conversations, the biggest laughs and the tightest hugs. My heart bursts with joy when my daughter sits at the counter as I peel, dice, chop, season, sear, flip and knead and teach her to do the same. We talk about school and what's great and not so great. We talk about her new crushes (heaven help me haha) and kids she struggles to get along with. I share experiences, she shares experiences, we laugh and sometimes we cry. My kitchen is the heart of my home and I wouldn't want it any other way!

So friend, come on over and lets spend some "thyme" at my table. I saved you a seat.

xoxo,

Kenzie
